About Drawdown Aotearoa New Zealand

Drawdown Aotearoa New Zealand provides a resource of the most effective climate solutions within New Zealand.

Our mission is to educate New Zealanders on these solutions and to build engagement and implementation so we can lead the world in achieving Drawdown.

Drawdown is the point in time when levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere stop climbing and start to decline. Less carbon in the atmosphere will help to mitigate the worst impacts of climate change, but drawdown isn’t just about carbon.

By rethinking the way we generate our energy, use transport, produce food, use our land, protect our biodiversity and manage our waste, we can grow to be better. Ultimately Drawdown is about improving lives, while ensuring a safe future for our planet.

New Zealand’s Role as a climate leader

New Zealand is a small country with big ambitions when it comes to the climate. However our current trajectory is not quite living up to our commitments. Drawdown Aotearoa New Zealand would like to change that.

By setting out a roadmap of the most effective solutions, we can focus on getting to work, engaging with communities and businesses in order to achieve real life emission reductions. With a highly skilled population full of innovative thinkers and doers, New Zealand is in a unique position to lead the world when it comes to the low carbon economy of the future.

About Project Drawdown

Drawdown Aotearoa New Zealand have been greatly inspired by the work of Project Drawdown. We would like to educate New Zealanders on the climate solutions most relevant to them and to build engagement and implementation so we can reach Drawdown as soon as possible.

Project Drawdown is a nonprofit organization based in the USA that seeks to help the world reach “Drawdown”- the future point in time when levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere stop climbing and start to steadily decline.
